The buddy button is a rip off. $65 for a big button, so you have to pay more than a normal xbox controller for being disabled on something that wouldn't even cost more than $3 to make. Hmm...

The reality is...the easier one designs to initially set up such a device, the more restricted and limited its many uses will be. People of many unique disabilities, with the help of someone tech savvy, will finally get the opportunity to setup some form of controller scheme that enables them to game easier on a console. The complexity of this device is due to the plethora of options available for the controller designer. I also agree that engineering cost to create such an adapter will never pay for itself, since its use is celebrated by such a niche market. Nevertheless, it is great PR and a fantastic gesture to the disabled community...this is something no other game company has ever cared aboutbor even considered, for it's not part of the bottom line: profits.

It's meant for disabled people (people who don't have arms or hands) that want to play games but can't because they can't use the controller. Of course the 9 year old weeb on VNchannel that doesn't understand it's purpose calls it "trash"

Completely trash review, and Linus should be ashamed!!! 1 - This isn't made for fully-abled users. Its made for users that might not have control of any 1 limb, up to all limbs 2 - if you can't find a single (buddy) button with a 3.5 jack or a usb jack for less than $65, you have no clue 3 - those foot pedals would be great with any racing game 4 - if anyone could use a joystick, they would!! 5 - This whole review is off the rails. Linus invite a user that has limited mobility to review the pad. You review is horrible and possibly offensive. This whole review is completely cringe. But I do give you credit for using your star power to make this more well known.

I attended a game design convention where the lead of this project explained their approach to developing this product. Its very well designed. For example, the angle of the whole box is made in such a way that it does not tire your hands as much, the distance between the two buttons is big enough so players who have the trouble with mechanical ability do not accidentally press the wrong button and others.

I am a nurse who manages care, almost exclusively for clients, in their homes, who have extreme limitation in their ability to to move any parts of their body. These folks are a lot of times stuck in their beds, or severely limited from going out of their homes for the remainder of their lives. Computers and gaming are something that can reconnect them. This device is a game changer (groan), but really it is. The buddy controller is fantastic - I worked with a young man who loved FPS, but through his disease lost all of his muscles except for being able to move his thumb 1/8" and his right toe. I would take the keyboard and control movement, we took a trackball and maxed out the sensitivity and very very carefully put it by his thumb, and we used another mouse placed just under his big toe. He would shoot and aim like this. It was the only thing this guy could do besides watch tv. This device would have made such a difference, the ability to use any adaptive switch is clutch! While the price may be high, as all adaptive equipment is, there are a lot of funding options out there (at least in my state) and all of the clients types I serve get the adaptive equipment they need. And as a different commenter said, most folks already have these switches for other devices. The criticisms Linus had, I would say, aren't super relevant to the average user in need of this devise. Chances are, if they need this type of adaptive equipment, a 16 button joystick hasn't been in their repertoire for quite some time. Further, everything in their lives requires custom, step by step set up. Being limited to plugging in on one side of the controller vs the other would likely not even register as a concern vs being able to crouch and fire, instead of just firing in an FPS for example. Thanks for doing the review! It was much better than the mouth mouse one. You are big enough now though LMG, next time you do a review on adaptive equipment, get someone who actually will use it in there to demonstrate.

Look how Nintendo tends to make something new to help people, hell they called the Wii "Wii" simply because its orighal name "Revolution" was too hard for people to say, and Sony tends to copy it. And now Microsoft trys to make something to help more people, but this isn't to attract more people this is meant to help people who don't have the ability to even do regular everyday things like take a shower or some shit like that.

What requires more ability handel? Executing a single function or moving an object over time? Are MA´s now handed out in cereal boxes or did somebody spill coffee over the original design sketch? Ridiculous.

A small button is typically way harder to operate than a small joystick or dpad for a disabled person, so it makes sense to have them be the biggest feature. Pretty sure Microsoft’s multi million dollar RnD división put some thought into it. The main point of the controller isn’t the controller itself anyways it’s the ability to plug in and map multiple accessories.
