where i live there's only kickboxing, like ONLY kickboxing and it's boring AF. Most boring martial arts ever together with boxing (though i'd rather do boxing). If there was gym for Kali, Silat or jiu-jitsu nearby i'd do it... but alas i live in tokkie territory filled with turks, maroccans and white trash and there's only muay thai or kickboxing.....

Well there is many reasons i gues when i started Thai-Boxing i just wanted a fun way to get some.exercise and the gym was the closest to my home. Fast 25 years. No i think the personal development in martial arts no matter wi h pne you happen to enjoy is the most valuable aspect of it. My Thai Boxing day's have long been gone but wbery time i get to teach Judo to the "Special needs" kids in our club i simply am a happy man.

Let's say the truth, if that guy on his back (5:14) had friends, they could have kicked the guy on top of him in the head, or in the back. I have done karate and Krav Maga. Krav Maga teaches people to never sit on top of someone else in a fight in a public place because you can control only the person under yourself. One have limited spatial awareness and very limited room for defending yourself from third parties attacks. The guy immobilising the other on the floor was lucky, because once on the floor one's is vulnerable. I don't think that BJJ is an effective self defence system, it's a sport, a very good one, but a sport. It doesn't teach spatial awareness and dealing with multiple opponents.

@913lalilulelo For real, the training doesn't only help with "skill," it greatly improves your stamina and length of fighting as well. I do brazilian jiu-jitsu, a bit of judo n muay Thai as well. But mostly I do brazilian jiu-jitsu as my main focus. I really like jiu-jitsu.

Right? There's people always commenting that martial arts doesn't help in a street fight, ON THE VIDEOS that the martial artists are clearly, easily winning the fight there part of. Lol. It's when it comes down to getting jumped by a group of people that sucks. But that's for anyone, martial arts or not. When you have 4 people against 1, it's gonna suck. But a decent martial artist vs an average person who starts shit, the martial artist nearly always has the upper hand.

When I came up, not in sport, but on the street, most of the MA guys got destroyed on the street, unless they were lucky enough to fight some mutt.. Ground and pound, good basic boxing, and brawler skills, dominated the most. Nowadays, adding submissions is a plus, but for the street you better be very selective of the ones you choose as opposed to the ones used in sport.

I am born in 97, so not as strange of times as kids born in 07 or later but, it was allready a lot like today. Back when I was in primary school my dad told me one thing, if somebody bullies you, beat him up. That was allready an outragous thing to say at that time. So I did exactly that, I was very good in school, so the "cool dudes" wanted to sort of push me into the nerd corner. Well I beat them up and we became friends later. But one thing I will remember is, my teacher at that time, was a rather old lady, she went into retirement shortly after. When she asked me why I beat them up, I told her they had bullied me and that my dad told me to do so. She accepted that and I got a minor punishement. A year later when something similar happened and I head to report to my teacher, a yound man, he absolutely went up the roof. Violence is part of human interaction, people who don't understand and accept that have just as dum as those who think it's the only means to get what you want.
