Can somebody telll me the catcher that used to lob the ball back to the pitcher after each pitch. Literally lobs it.😂😂 that brings back memories. I believe he played around the late 90’s to late 2010’s. I could be wrong.

Are players allowed to run AROUND those with the ball in hand? Because everyone seems to run in a straight line to the next base, even though there’s a guy in front of them waiting to tag them as they run by...

    • locomojoboy2

Quacking Duck So basically as long as they stay within the dirt boundaries they are fine? What about the huge dirt area between 2nd and 3rd? Can a runner run way outside that direct line to get around a defensive player trying to tag him as long as he stays on the dirt?

    • Quacking Duck

      Quacking Duck

      12 ngày trước

locomojoboy2 the runner has to stay inside the baseline. The baseline is established when a defensive player attempts to put a tag on the runner, at this point the runner has a straight line to the base he is trying to reach and 3 feet on either side of that line. Hope this helps. :)

These aren't snap throws. The catcher sees all the action in front of him. He is a "defensive" player, always anticipating runner movements and him knowing ahead of time what needs to happen next if that ball gets loose. His first role is to keep that ball under control, then at least in front of him, knowing that if it escapes....'its going to cost runs. It's aLL predictable. 2nd most defensive player is the shortstop. Same thing

I go with Varitek and his 4 no-hitters. Most by a catcher. He was an out away 2 more times and caught a rain shortened 5 inning no hitter that counted as a win, but not a no hitter. He wasn't a great hitter, but certainly better than what Boston has now. Christian Vazquez is the best defensive catcher I have seen play in Boston.

Just a question about a couple of those. Is it not a foul tip if the ball barely changes trajectory and hits the catchers glove? I mean, a couple of those looked like foul tips that then popped off the glove and were caught, would have just been strikes, but ended up turning into caught foul balls. I don't fully understand this rule, I guess.

    • Tom S

      Tom S

      26 ngày trước

A foul tip, regardless if it's caught, is treated as a strike if there are less than 2 strikes. On the third strike, if the foul tip is caught, the batter is out.
