after watching the DWR press conference you included ( thanks for that Juan) it is still clear that there is widespread and deep resentment and distrust of the DWR. I give the DWR panel a lot of credit of suffering through some of those questions. Hopefully over the next few years the DWR can restore some trust and credibility. Thanks again Juan for all you have done getting the info out to the world!

blancolirio Hi Warn. Just watched your 737 max update. Excellent . Was never taught the technique to "unload" the stab. Perhaps I've forgotten after being lobotomised so many times but it's still sobering. The "rattle" factor here was VERY high if the thrust levers were never brought back to a sensible N1. Horrific situation. Glad I'm retired. DC3, Viscount, DC9, Fk100, 737-3,4,5 ,700, A319/320. Not flown a Luscombe though 😢. ( the other video is too hot for this post )

The spill way was purposely sabotaged during it's original building because they knew there was a massive amount of gold right underneath the spill way. They knew that when it collapsed under duress that they would be able to legally excavate the Gold while killing and or displacing the people below the spill way that live in the general vicinity. Time for another update. On another VNchannel channel there is some fear mongering about the spillway opening as soon as 1 April and you were mentioned almost by name, "the pilot." Her comments had all the normal issues that you have so well covered, leaks on earthen dam, water seen on repaired spill way, ect. Anyway, coverage of the opening of the spill way and a reinteraction of why the small leaks on earthen dam do not threaten the integrity of the dam might calm the people who hear this fear mongering. Also, I would like some information on the denial of natural disaster funds by the federal government on the grounds that the Oroville Dam was not a "natural" disaster, but was caused by failure to do normal repairs and upgrades.

I noticed they have webcams up and running at the top and bottom of the spillway and that they are letting just enough water through to completely wet the spillway surface. They're taking away the roadway at the bottom. My question has to do with the smallish flow of water; it doesn't seem to come out through the dentates (sp?) at the bottom. Where is it going?

Have you seen this press release about the possibility of using the spillway next week? (Edit: Opening April 2nd) water.ca.gov/News/News-Releases/2019/March/DWR-Prepares-for-Potential-Use-of--Orovilles-Main-Spillway _The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) is closely monitoring Oroville reservoir levels and current forecasts. Due to storms expected in the Feather River basin, DWR is taking steps to prepare for use of the main spillway potentially as early as the first week of April._ _DWR is following its standard process of notifying regulatory agencies, local law enforcement and local elected officials for the anticipated use. The Department will continue to update the public, media and local partners through emails, news releases and social media._ _To prepare for potential use of the spillway, DWR is removing construction equipment from the spillway chute. It will also remove a temporary road below the main spillway that has been utilized during construction. The road will be removed to minimize water quality impacts. Some turbidity is expected while the road is being removed._ _Downstream monitoring is in place to track water quality. In addition, temporary cameras and lights have been situated alongside the spillway for observational purposes when water begins to flow down the chute. The information below reflects current reservoir level estimates. Forecasts can change quickly and may affect the estimates provided._ _The main spillway and the emergency spillway are reconstructed and able to handle flows as needed to manage lake levels and provide flood protection for the surrounding communities. DWR will continue updating the public, media and local partners._

Juan, I would suggest contacting DWR to see about gaining permission to perform a flyover of the spillway when it is used for the first time. Of course, that's if you actually need to make that request.

+Philip Felton Thanks. I was noticing that outflow was increasing, and assumed it was in accordance with flood control. I was just wondering how far they would be able to ramp that up in lieu of the storm coming up without opening the main spillway. My thinking being that they'd rather test the main spillway on their own terms.

My understanding is that one of the generators is undergoing maintenance so about 14,000 out of 17,000 cfs available. The operating plan does not include the river outlet valve as that is reserved for emergencies and temperature control. The capacity target for April1 is 848' after then it will be allowed to increase further, about an additional 150,000 acre-feet by mid month. Looks like they're aiming to have it near capacity by the summer.

Pretty flawless, DWR seems like the FAA to Boeing.

Gov. Brown, and now Gov. Newsom, are way out of their league. Extremely ignorant men. Also, the wack a doodles, same thing. They live in fear.

Juan, love the Mighty L. Same year I was born, 1947. I really love flying with you and appreciate the valuable reports you provide those living downstream from the damn. I am not a pilot but always wanted to be. Just a little too costly for me. I retired from AA and love to go flying whenever I can with a Pro in the left seat.
